El Taybeen, Downtown

Our experience and from many of our readers is, that in Egypt it is very difficult to give a Restaurant a certain rating, because often the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff may vary from day to day. So El Gouna Times will be always very careful to put a label on a Restaurant.

Today we want to make an exception. Last April when I was in El Gouna, my son Mike and I went to dine at El Taybeen, which is a bit hidden located in Downtown El Gouna around the corner of the street where you find such fine dining places like Tobasco, Sandbar, Biergarten etc. When you turn in that street to the right behind the supermarket, towards the canal, you pass by El Taybeen Café and Snacks, before you reach the Fils de l’Eau.

Most tourists, and also a lot of residents, consider El Taybeen a local egyptian place where you can have only snacks or smoke a sisha, as the subname of this place falsely suggests. However, we found out last April that you can have here some very fine specialities of the house. This evening we went back, and ordered the same as Mike did in April: Grilled Beef Filet Mushroom Sauce. (Pricetag 57 LE plus 10% taxes). And when we test something, we will always pay the full price to remain fully independent.

As Mike recalled, it was an excellent filet with one of the finest mushroom sauces he ever had, and today I had to confirm this.

Quality of at least this dish seemed to remain stable over the last two months. So if you are looking for an excellent diner in a nice Egyptian atmosphere, give El Taybeen a try!
