Snorkling with Blue Brothers

Today I went for a snorkling trip (25 EUR) with Blue Brothers Diving Center, which is situated next to the Ocean View Hotel in the Abu Tig Marina. Blue Brothers is established in El Gouna since 1997 by Doro and Tom from Germany, and well-known for their professionalism.

At around 08.00 am I was picked up at my appartment by their services, because so early it’s not easy to get a shuttle bus. 3 boats were chartered today by Blue Brothers, but in high season they run up to 5 boats daily. At the Marina I was introduced to Adam and Marco, who were our dive instructor and divemaster for the day and accompanied 10 divers and 6 snorklers on our boat.

After all the equipment was stowed onto the boats, one after the other took off for different diving spots. As there was more wind as last few days, we got adviced to take a pill against sea-sickness which was provided by Blue Brothers, and I was glad I took one, as the waves let the boat roll quite heavy.

On the trip to the diving spots there was short excitement, as somebody thought he had spotted delphins, but when we arrived at that area, no delphins were discovered. During the trip we all took place at the sun deck upstairs and got first instructions for the day, especially how to treat environment by not feeding nor throwing away any disposals overboard. Also toilet use was explained to keep the Red Sea clean. After arriving at the diving spot (where there was only one other boat), the divers got their breefing with interesting details about what to expect there, and on they went to check and prepare their equipment.

As I am having an hole in my ear, I am not allowed to dive, so me and some other snorklers got our safety instructions and were shown were we could get the best views while snorkling. It was great. All those different colours of the corals and hundreds of different types of species.

After about half an hour of snorkling we came back aboard, and went on to a second diving spot where the tides were different and therefor a total other landscape waited to be discovered.
But first we could take in our lunch, which was prepared by Ali the cook, and I have to say, this lunch was excellent. After a short resting time the guests went on for their second dive, and I went for a 45 minutes snorkling trip. Here the water was about 18 meters deep, and it was so clear that I could follow the divers at the bottom level, so it was nearly as much fun as diving yourself.

I’ve recognized among others: butterfly fishes, perrot fishes, nemos, napolean fishes, and a big black one with a white belt. And some very large ones, with blue and yellow flippers, and a tank on their back… oh no, that were divers…

After all people hat returned aboard, we got a nice tea and cake presented by the crew, and around 17.00 we arrived quite satisfied, but also tired back to the harbour were the other boats came in also.

And then the day was finished at the bar of Blue Brothers and the fishes got bigger and bigger as the evening went on…
