El Dokkan: handcraftship and antiques

In El Gouna’s Abu Tig Marina some new shops have opened recently. This week we visited the El Dokkan (Arabic word for “the shop”) in the Ocean View Shopping center and met Mr. Sami Darwish. El Dokkan offers interior design and genuine handicraft for your house, as well as very nice antique pieces for interior decoration.

Sami Darwish, a 54 year old Egyptian with Italian roots who lives in the Marina, is married, has 2 kids (studying in the UK) left his stressfull former life in hotel and travel industry to follow his old passion: love for originally designed and handcraft artisanal work.

Difficult to show on just some pictures what makes up the fine quality of handcraft items , and therefor we recommend you to have a look for yourself and visit the El Dokkan shop to discover all different kind of antiques items, furniture, lamps, mirrors, textiles & recycled glass (all made in Egypt).

Interesting to see that some of the lamps and tissus are using old famous motives like Mata Hari and some other famous egyptian belly dancers. Sami expressed his concern that handmade will never be exactly same copies. Personally I don’t think that this is a concern, it as an advantage!

Or choose from handmade linen, cotton or silk to decorate your home in El Gouna the indivual way. Sami who speaks english, arabic and italian, as well as some french, did apologize for the construction works at the Ocean View Extension which are going on for quite a while. But the little mess in the direct environment will certainly not hinder you to discover some very fine and unique items.
