Jobo’s Bar and Restaurant at Tammr Henna
Some time ago we had an interview with Anna Afonchenko and Per Ankarlu, the owners of Jobo’s Restaurant at Tammr Henna. Per who is a captain on a 50 meter yacht met Anna some years ago in Sharm El Sheik where she was the food and beverage manager in a large international hotel. They fell in love, not only with each other, but also with El Gouna when visiting it once.
This sympathic couple, which has now a daughter of 15 months, took over Jobo’s in 2003 and they are contineously adding new features to this favourite bar and restaurant in El Gouna. Since february of this year they run also the Maritim Cafe in the Marina, and some new plans are also under development.
But let’s concentrate on Jobo’s today.
Besides sports bar, Jobo’s offer also a very nice choice of lunch and dinner plates. Per: “…my brother, who is an european chef, comes over from Sweden several times a year to develop new dishes and introduces new techniques to our local chefs and staff of 8 in El Gouna….” The Sauce Bearnaise is f.e fresh homemade, and the beef is delivered from a family owned farm.
My personal favourite dishes here are the Plank Steak or the Swedisch meat balls, or the pancakes with vanilla ice late in the evening. But you can also have a quick lunch at Jobo’s, all at reasonable prices, and served by a friendly staff which gives you the feeling arriving home, each time you visit El Gouna again.
The special concept of Jobo’s is being the number one sports bar in El Gouna, where tourists can watch “their game” while having a drink or enjoy their meal. Thanks to an high tech satelite installation, nearly every sports event in the world can be delivered live on the tv monitors, placed throughout the restaurant and terrace. In addition, in September 2005 they added a new digital beamer to project the images also on a screen well over 2 meter wide.
If no important games are aired, a popular music mix from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s are a welcome background entertainment.
Recently Jobo’s started to offer from time to time performances of live bands. As April Morris, one of our active EGT readers, put it:
“…We had a great night at Jobo’s on Sunday 6th November 2005 as they had a live band from Cairo on in the bar playing Rolling Stones, Beatles, Pop & Rap. This is something they should do more often as it created a great atmosphere and there were even a few people from the audience who joined in with the band. El Gouna deserves a bar that puts on good live bands which are not playing the real “cheesey” music that we get subjected to downtown on a Saturday night….”
