Nil Sohaq’s striker Rami Kalushi, appropriately nicknamed Kalushnikov, set up a last gap injury time goal to set up a shock at the Bustan Ground on Wednesday 29 December 2005. A devastating result for the home site, their first ever home defeat since their inception, sending the visitor’s bench wild after the final whistle.
El Gouna, never in contention with their heads already in March for the play-offs fielded an uninspired side, never able to penetrate the solid Sohaq defense. A disappointing Gouna side were always struggling to find their rhythm against a Nil Sohaq site full of confidence.
The opening exchanges were desperately short on quality, with the game littered with bad passing on both sides. And when a goal came, it was a scrappy affair entirely in keeping with what had gone before.
An unfashionable first half was followed by 45 minutes of equally abysmal fashion, with Gouna wasting sparse opportunity. Nil Sohaq were pressing, but showed little creativity.
Last Wednesday’s game once again showed that El Gouna are in dire need of one or two prolific strikers.
Gouna are now in Cairo for a training session and will return to Bustan for their Egyptian Cup 2nd round tie with El Minya.
